Here’s how –

1.       Collect the things you love and work them into the space you have. Your home should grow with you, it will evolve over time.

2.       You don’t have to stick to any design agenda…..just surround yourself with the things you love and it will make you feel fantastic. A mix of old and new looks great ,and stops your home from looking too sterile.

3.       Don’t select pieces of furniture that all match. A mix of texture and colour works well as long as you stay within a defined colour scheme of at least 3 colours.

4.       If you only have a small area select just use a few key pieces, and it’s important to keep the size and proportion of the pieces right so you create a feeling of spaciousness. Try and use pieces that can double for storage as well.

5.       Book shelves full of books you love bring character to a room. For a great look, group same coloured spines together.

6.       Another great interior design tip is to use cushions to add colour and character to a room. Don’t have cushions that are all the same size, colour or pattern – mix it up! Select a mix of cushions within a colour or pattern theme, both small and large pattern. Select a variety of sizes depending on the size of the sofa or chair.

7.       Artwork is another inexpensive way of creating real impact in a room. You don’t have to spend a lot of money for it to look fantastic. Get your photos on the wall – family or your travel snaps. A group of photos with similar theme or frame colour work well, an odd number usually works best. Create a whole wall or just a few feature pieces.

8.       Decals are another way to decorate your walls that create an individual look at very reasonable prices. Decals are also great if you are renting as they can be removed from walls without leaving marks. There are loads of websites with all sorts of designs to suit every space.
